The management of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has requested striking unions in the institution to make their demands known through dialogue.
The university's chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Other Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) embarked on an indefinite strike on Thursday over nonpayment of salaries and other entitlements and other privileges.
The call for dialogue was made by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Patrick Itumo, on behalf of the management in Abakaliki, the state capital.
“The Management is surprised that the unions decided to embark on strike at this time in spite of the deep and far-reaching consultations it had with them.

Itumo added that the Governing Council at its emergency meeting with the unions on May 9, reiterated the management's unquestionable commitment to settling the April and May 2023 salaries before the end of the current administration.
“The management is committed to settling the outstanding 20% arrears of salaries cut from the Covid-19 era.
"To ignore the appeals of EBSU Governing Council does not speak well," the PRO noted while calling on the unions to return to work.
