Edo 2020: Wike Foresees Obaseki Victory As Oshiomhole Blasts PDP For Exploiting Earlier Insults Of Ize-Iyamu

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the September 19 election in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has no opponent as “Adams Oshiomhole told Edo people that Ize-Iyamu was rusticated from school; that he poured acid on a fellow student that destroyed his manhood”.

He made the remark on Wednesday in a television programme, saying that the people of Edo already know the type of candidate the All Progressives Congress (APC) is presenting, going by what Oshiomhole said of him four years ago.

Wike stated that the former APC National Chairman had at the time described Ize-Iyamu “an armed robber that cannot be trusted with money,” adding that “such a character cannot be accepted by Edo people as governor during the election”.

But during the visit of Edo youths to the APC candidate’s home to announce their endorsement of his governorship bid, Oshiomhole observed that the PDP has chosen to focus on the things he said in the past about Ize-Iyamu in the spirit of electioneering, instead of presenting their achievements and plans to the people.

According to him: “They cannot display their achievements because they don’t have any. They have decided to focus on Oshiomhole although he is not in the ballot.

“Pastor Ize-Iyamu is a good man with genuine plans to move Edo State forward. He has the support of all and is on his way to repeating the 2012 feat of winning in all the 18 local governments as I did when he was my campaign director-general.”

Wike, who is the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council, stated that he and his team accepted the responsibility to lead the campaign because they were satisfied with results coming out already from Edo State.

His words, “I respect the Benin tradition and I know that Edo people are educated to know that Oshiomhole cannot play on their intelligence. If he is now retracting what he said of Ize Iyamu, who is sure that he’s saying the correct thing now.

“Adams Oshiomole’s sudden u-turn is a great insult on Edo people. This is an opportunity for Edo people both at home and in the diaspora to use their votes to tell Oshiomhole they cannot take his lies anymore.

“From all indications, it is obvious that there is no strong opposition against Obaseki and he will win convincingly," the Rivers Governor said.
