Edo APC: 'Oshiomhole Declared Himself The Supreme Court' - Obaseki Reacts To His Disqualification

Edo APC: 'Oshiomhole Declared Himself The Supreme Court' -

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki says he will not appeal the outcome of his party’s screening process because the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole has “declared that he is the supreme court and ultimate determiner of the fate and future of our great party”.

AllNews reports that the incumbent Governor, who is seeking reelection into office, was disqualified at the screening process for the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for having a “defective certificate”.

The Chairman of the Screening Committee, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, revealed this to newsmen on Friday in Abuja that apart from Obaseki, Chris Ogiemwonyi and Mathew Iduoriyekenwen were also disqualified from standing for the primaries.

According to Ayuba, the incumbent Governor of Edo State was disqualified on the ground of a defective Higher School Certificate, and that the document Obaseki produced only attested to his attendance and not a certificate.

He also said that members of the seven-man screening committee could not ascertain the authenticity of his National Youth Service Corps Discharge Certificate.

At the screening process, which held in Abuja on Friday, Ize Iyamu who bore the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2016 gubernatorial election in Edo State was cleared alongside four other candidates.

Reacting in a statement signed by his media aide, Crusoe Osagie, the Governor said it would be futile to appeal the outcome, pointing out that there had been indications that he would not get a fair assessment in the run-up to the nomination of who flies the APC flag in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.

The statement reads in part, “We have watched the mockery of democratic process, which Adams Oshiomhole, is administering and superintending over in our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC). It has been an unfortunate, disheartening and dreadful spectacle.

“We had initially asserted that going by the open display and enthronement of illegality by one man in the party that comprises several organs and eminent personalities, there is no way that Governor Godwin Obaseki would get a fair assessment in the run-up to the nomination of candidates to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.

“It is unfortunate that this open show of shame, illegality and travesty of justice is the brand of democracy which Oshiomhole has reduced the APC into.

“The situation is quite saddening because this is a party supposedly reputed for change, equity and social justice.”
