Edo Election: Court Nullifies Candidacy Of Ize-Iyamu's Runni

A High Court sitting in Edo state has on Wednesday nullified the candidacy of Audu Ganiyu, the running mate of Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Edo state governorship election held in September 2020.

Nullifying the candidacy of Ganiyu, Justice H.A Courage-Ogbebor explained that the deputy governorship candidate tendered false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission in his Form EC9.

Recall that  Kadiri Oshoakhemhe, a  member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had approached the court in a bid to nullify the candidacy of Ganiyu as the deputy governorship candidate.

Ize-Iyamu who contested alongside Ganiyu on the platform of APC lost the September 19 governorship poll to the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Obaseki who won his first governorship election on the platform of APC dumped the party after he was disqualified from contesting at the party's primary election.

There were allegations that he was disqualified from contesting at the primaries of APC because of his disagreement with the former National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki, however, proceeded to join the PDP where he won the party's primaries to contest in the Governorship election.
