The freshest Edo Election Update from South-South is that Governor Godwin Obaseki has all but been reelected to office, after garnering more votes than his closest challenger, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
AllNews reports that the results of the18 local governments in the South-South state have been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at its office along Ramat Park, Benin-City, with Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clinching most of the local governments.
Obaseki ran for re-election on the platform of the PDP after being denied renomination by the APC arising from his falling out with Adams Oshiomhole who was the then-national chairman of the party.
The final vote count for the Edo Governorship Election: Godwin Obaseki (PDP) - 307,955; Osagie Ize-Iyamu (APC) - 223,619.
Johnson Alalibo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Edo asked for "twenty minutes" to officially declare the winner.
