Edo Government Says New Policy Has Increased Examination Enrollment Numbers

Edo Government Says New Policy Has Increased Examination Enr

The government of Edo State has said the introduction of the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) policy has boosted the number of enrolments for common entrance examinations in the state.

The state's Commissioner for Education, Dr Joan Osa-Oviawe, made this disclosure while evaluating the conduct of the 2022 common entrance certificate examination in the state on Monday in Benin

She said no less than 90,000 pupils took the 2022 examination in the 445 centres across the state.

Osa-Oviawe noted that the candidates for the examination were pupils from both private and public primary schools.

She further added that the state plans to improve the conduct of the examination in 2023, listing the early release of primary six pupils' certificates as one of its intended reforms.

“The ministry plans to improve on the conduct of the examination next year. Also, our goal is that by August 2022, primary six certificates will be out,” Osa-Oviawe said.

The commissioner expressed her contentment with the conduct of the 2022 examination, praising the examinations department of the ministry for their efforts in its success.

“We monitored the various centres across Edo South Senatorial District and the examination started on time.

“This became necessary to ensure that they finished the exercise on time and went home on time,” she said.

Osa-Oviawe also lauded the parents of the pupils for their obedience to the rules of the examination, noting that the government plans to help them know the mental ability of their children through a rigorous analysis of their results.
