Edo Government To Commence School Ranking Next Academic Session

Edo Government To Commence School Ranking Next Academic Sess

The government of Edo State has said it would begin to rank schools based on their performances in the 2022/2023 academic session.

Dr Joan Osa-Oviawe, the State Commissioner for Education disclosed this in Benin on Thursday.

According to Osa-Oviawe, the ranking will differentiate the schools that meet the government's vision and those that do not.

Speaking on the modality of the ranking, the commissioner said all schools, including private and public schools as well as adult education centres, would be ranked by local governments based on their performance in their areas.

She further said that as a way of strengthening school management in the state in line with the framework of EdoBEST 2.0, School Management Board (SMB) would soon be established.

The commissioner explained that the board, which would commence work in September 2022, would assist in the functioning of the school while raising the needed external funds for the schools.

Osa-Oviawe urged well-meaning members of the state both home and abroad to apply for a spot on the board.

“Edo State Ministry of Education is inviting community service-driven individuals at home and in the diaspora to consider sitting on the board of any public Senior Secondary School of their choice.

“Each SMB will consist of 11 members, including a representative of a school’s Parents/Teachers Association, a parent of a student in the school and the school principal, who will serve as Secretary to the board,” Osa-Oviawe said.
