Edo Prison Break: No Jail Break Can Succeed Without Involvem

Foremost Nigerian Investigative Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo has reacted to the recent prison break which happened at Oko Prison in Benin, Edo State, in the heat of the #ENDSARS protest.

Soyombo who is very famous for his 2019 undercover investigative report on the Nigerian prison system held that no jailbreak could succeed without the involvement of the prison authorities.

Referring to his experience as an inmate while conducting the undercover investigation, Soyombo argued that it was impossible for unarmed protesters or hoodlums to in Edo state or elsewhere to set the inmates free.

"As someone who lived eight days in prison as an inmate during an undercover investigation, I can tell you that it is NOT possible for unarmed protesters or hoodlums to break into a prison in Edo State or elsewhere and set inmates free. Ko possible, sir.

"No largescale jailbreak can succeed without (i) the active connivance of prison insiders, (ii) the tacit support of prison security or (iii) the disguised involvement of prison authorities. When you're ready to tell us the truth -- or if you ever will -- we'll be here, waiting," he tweeted.

It will be recalled that AllNews had earlier reported that the Nigerian police confirmed the attack on prison facilities in Edo state that led to the jailbreak of inmates.

The police however accused #ENDSARS protesters of breaking into the prison facility and breaking free prisoners.

Following the development, Edo state Governor Godwin Obaseki declared a 24 hours curfew in the state.
