The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the commencement of an investigation into 11 suspected oil thieves and one vessel, MT SAISNIL II, apprehended by the Nigerian Navy.

Dele Oyewole, spokesperson for the commission, confirmed this development in a statement released on Saturday.

Oyewole stated that the suspects and the vessel were transferred to the EFCC's custody by the Nigerian Navy, specifically by NNS Beecroft, located in Apapa, Lagos.

He said that the vessel and the crew were intercepted and arrested on February 7, 2024, by naval officers.

Oyewole further disclosed that the suspects were allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering and Automatic Identification System (AIS) infractions at Abo Oilfield, Ogogoro Community, Ondo State.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded by the commission’s operatives in its Lagos Command,” he said.
