The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Peter Obi for questioning following an investigative report linking him to a global tax evasion scandal and illegal offshore dealings.

The former governor was asked to appear before it on October 27.

The Pandora Papers revealed what it knows about alleged financial regulations that the opposition leader broke by operating his company and overseas bank account while in public office, in violation of existing laws.

The investigation as reported by Premium Times revealed how Obi incorporated offshore holdings, which he did not declare to the Code of Conduct Bureau when he served as governor of Anambra state.

Obi was also reported to have kept managing his Next International UK Limited 14 months after becoming a governor and also continued to operate a foreign account.

The investigation also alleged that the ex-governor used shell companies incorporated in tax havens to launder public money and dodge taxes.

The agency communicated the invitation to the former governor during the week and has been mandated to go after other suspects whose names have featured in the Pandora Papers scandal, an investigative series comprising of 600 journalists globally.
