EFCC To Launch Probe Into Corruption Charges Against Obasa

EFCC To Launch Probe Into Corruption Charges Against Obasa

After the Lagos State House of Assembly's Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was cleared of funds misappropriation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it would launch an investigation into the allegation.

Obasa was accused of diverting public funds and abuse of office in a series of revelations by SaharaReporters after an investigation into the speaker.

SaharaReporters had reported that Obasa had allocated contracts to himself using third-party channels, as well as owning 60 bank accounts linked to his BVN under different names.

Although, members of the State House of Assembly had dismissed the claims as false, the EFCC Lagos Office via its Zonal Head, Mohammed Rabo, said that the commission will investigate the matter.

Rabo said, “We will give it the required attention. We have our process here. This is the first process. You have submitted. We will go through it. I assure you we will give it the attention it requires. Always do your things within the ambit of the law.”

Members of the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CISNAC) had picketed the EFCC office demanding that the commission looked into the matter, while submitting a petition to the commission to induce the investigation.
