Egypt escape Mozambique scare as Salah rescues team in AFCON

Egypt escaped a Mozambique scare to salvage a 2-2 draw against their counterpart in the AFCON opener.

The Pharaohs of Egypt took the lead in the 2nd minute as they hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 in the match.

Egypt were the favourites coming into the match as Mostafa Mohammed opened the scoring in the early minutes of the contest.

However, Mozambique showed they were not at the AFCON to make up the numbers as they equalised in the 55th minute courtesy of a strike from Witiness Quembo to make it 1-1.

The Mozambique side took a shock lead in the match to make it 2-1 thanks to a goal from Clesio Banque in the 58th minute. He was assisted by Ricardo Guimaraes for their second goal of the match.

Despite the further wait for a goal from Egypt's perspective, it took a last-minute penalty from Liverpool's talismanic forward to salvage a draw for the Pharaohs of Egypt.

It finished 2-2 apiece between Egypt and Mozambique in the AFCON opener with Mohamed Salah scoring the late goal to rescue the point for his side in the 90+7 minutes of the contest.
