Eid-el-Fitr: Zulum vows to address electricity blackout

Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has called on residents of the state to intensify prayers for the return of peace in the state and other parts of Nigeria while pledging to address the electricity blackout in the region.

The governor stated this on Wednesday in his message to the people of the state after observing the two-raka'at Eid-el-Fitr prayer in Maiduguri.

While appreciating God for His sustenance to witness the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr, Zulum urged residents to remain law-abiding and patient with the government in its effort to address their challenges.

He said: “Glory be to Almighty Allah for allowing us to witness this year's Eid festival. I urge the people of Borno State to intensify their prayers for peace to reign in Borno and Nigeria.

“I also want to urge the people of Borno State to be law-abiding and patient with the government. We are doing everything possible to reduce the hardship faced by our people."

The governor also noted the electricity blackout being experienced by residents of the state due to vandals and assured that the government would address the issue.

He said: “I am aware Borno State has been witnessing blackouts due to the vandalisation of the electricity transmission towers along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway. As a result, the people of Maiduguri Metropolis and its environs have been witnessing water shortage.

“I want to assure the people of Borno that the government will do everything possible to restore electricity to Maiduguri."
