Ekiti State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker Hakeem Jamiu has urged secondary school students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

During a Constituency Engagement and Career Talk with students in Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency 2, close to Ado- Ekiti, Jamiu spoke on the topic "With Determination and Discipline, You Can Become That Great Person You Wanted to be."

The event, which took place in Igbemo Ekiti near Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, was part of Jamiu's re-election campaign.

The talk was organised by the Foluke Akosile Foundation (FAF) in collaboration with his campaign organization.

Jamiu spoke about the difficulties he faced while growing up and his perseverance to overcome those obstacles.

He acknowledged that achieving academic success is not effortless, yet he urged students to take their education seriously, and to stay focused on their goals in order to achieve success in life by pursuing legitimate dreams.

Jamiu credited his determination and persistence as significant factors in his earning a Master's degree in Political Science and a doctorate from Ekiti State University.

Jamiu also warned students to resist peer pressure to join cult groups and gangs and emphasised the importance of legitimate means of making money.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students who attended the event received gifts such as school bags, exercise books and financial lifeline.

It added that the Deputy Speaker has procured JAMB forms for students in the constituency and facilitated employment for many of the youths in the last three years of his representation.
