Ekiti man remanded for rape, abduction of teenage girl

25 year old Olamide Oni, has been remanded in correctional custody for the alleged abduction and rape of a 15-year-old girl.

The rider for Gus remand was issued by an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Raymond Osas, told the court that the defendant was “reasonably suspected” to have committed the offences of abduction and rape on a 15-year-old girl from January 13 to May 10, 2024, within Ado Ekiti Magisterial District.

He stated, “The offences are contrary to Sections 276 and 265(2) of the Criminal Law 2021.”

The court did not take the plea of the defendant although the charge was read and explained to him.

The victim, in her statement to the police, had said that she was invited by the defendant from Ado Ekiti to Ibadan, Oyo State where she ended up being with him at a guest house initially in Ibadan and later in Lagos between January and May.

She stated, “When I could not cope with the situation anymore because he was having sexual intercourse with me every day from January to May, I gave my parents’ phone number to somebody to help me call my parents. They later came to Lagos to arrest the defendant and brought me back to Ado Ekiti.”

The police prosecutor, who said he had sent the duplicate case file to the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, urged the court to remand the defendant to the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti pending the issuance of the legal advice.

In the ruling, Magistrate Olu Bamidele ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for 30 days pending issuance of legal advice by the DPP.

Bamidele adjourned the case till June 20, 2024 for mention.
