The Election Petition Tribunal for the 2022 Ekiti gubernatorial election has upheld the victory of the candidacy of Biodun Oyebanji the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Biodun Oyebanji came out victorious in the June gubernatorial election in the state.

Oyebanji had polled a total of 187,057 votes to defeat his two closest challengers, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The SDP candidate emerged second with a total vote of 82,211 while the PDP was third with 67,457 votes.

Segun Oni, the candidate of the SDP, unsatisfied with the outcome of the election on July 7, 2022, filed a petition at the tribunal challenging the declaration of the APC candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election.
