Election: Kuwaitis Vote Amid Political Crises, Reform Stalls

Kuwaiti voters have begun casting their ballots in the seventh legislative election within a decade, marking a significant moment for the country's political landscape.

The election on Tuesday comes after a series of political crises that have plagued the parliament and hindered the progress of reforms.

Polling commenced at 8 am and will continue until 8 pm, with results expected to be announced on Wednesday.

With more than 793,000 eligible voters, Kuwaitis have a crucial opportunity to shape the composition of the 50-seat legislature.

Kuwait stands as the only Gulf Arab state with an elected parliament possessing the power to hold the government accountable.

A total of 207 candidates, including opposition figures and 13 women, are vying for a four-year term as lawmakers.

Notably, this election witnesses the lowest number of candidates since 1996.
