Election Tribunal: Obi Requests Seven Weeks To Bring Witnesses

Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has requested seven weeks to produce witnesses to add credibility to his case at the Presidential Election Petition Court.

Vanguard reports that the request was made on Saturday and Obi also said he would present 50 witnesses to testify and prove that the election was rigged against him.

In his address through his team of lawyers led by Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), he disclosed that he was constrained in addition to some hitches he experienced at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Obi pointed out that his request for the seven weeks was based on the challenges mentioned above.

“My lords, we still have a few hiccups at INEC because of the order that was made by this court on March 8, directing them to allow us to carry out a forensic examination of the BVAS. They have not allowed us.

“We are also waiting for some documents we requested from them”, Kalu said.

Speaking further Kalu stated that the witnesses would be given 30 minutes to show their evidence, not including the time for possible demonstration of any electronic evidence.

He added that the parties had agreed 20 minutes would be sufficient to cross-examine the witnesses, and another five minutes would be used for their re-examination.
