The presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has won Katsina state in the just-concluded Saturday election. 

His close rival, the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a close second in the presidential race.

Atiku scored 489,045 votes from the 34 Local Government Areas of the state while Tinubu scored 482,045.

The election result was announced on Monday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for the state, Professor Mu'azu Abubakar Gusau. 

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, scored 69,385 and the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, who came fourth, scored 6,376 votes.

Professor Gusau explained that the presidential election was cancelled in some polling units of 15 LGAs of the state due to thuggery, over voting amongst others.

Meanwhile, other political parties that scored votes in the state include A 255; AA 523; AAC 234; ADC 1405; ADP 1798; APGA 1391; APM 603; APP 269; BP 327; NRM 1053; PRP 1986; SDP 339; YPP 1029 and ZLP 371.
