Electricity Tariff Hike: Osinbajo's Aide Explains Why Most Nigerians Will Not Be Affected By New Tariff

The spokesperson to the vice president, Laolu Akande, has explained why most Nigerians will not be affected by the new electricity tariff.

Akande, who spoke during a program on Channels Television, explained that the recent hike will not affect Nigerians because a majority of Nigerians were not experiencing stable electricity for 12 hours daily.

According to Akande, the new tariff is targeted at only those who enjoy stable electricity for 12 hours and above daily.

“Regarding the electricity tariff, the majority of Nigerians will not be paying more and I will like to say that again. Regarding the electricity tariff, the majority of Nigerians will not be paying more and that is essential because if you are currently receiving anything below 12 hours of electricity a day, your tariff will not go up.

“If you are being asked to pay more if you are in that category, you need to let us know, you need to go to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s platform on social media; go to Twitter, go to Facebook and report so that what the President said is enforced.”

AllNews had earlier reported the recent increment in the price of fuel and electricity tariff.

While the increment had triggered protest and uproar from Nigerians, the federal government is, however, insisting that there is no going back on its decision.
