Ember Months: FRSC Urges Motorists To Avoid Night Travels

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists to avoid night travels and conveying inflammable materials to save lives and property within roads in the country.

Joseph Toby, the Sector Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command gave the advice in Enugu while briefing journalists on line-up of activities to commemorate African Road Safety Day and 2022 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

He said: "Everyone should plan his or her journey on time and leave early for the journey.

“Night journey should be avoided due to obvious implications of difficulty in getting help if the vehicle develops fault or breakdown at night and one being victim of men of the underworld and kidnappers.”

The commander also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are repaired and made 100 per cent road worthy, adding: “No little fault should be ignored or managed”.

“There is a need for motorists to do self inspection of their vehicles before leaving in the morning and ensure that all vehicle parts, even bolts and nuts of tyres are properly fitted,” he said.

On the line up of activities for the 2022 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, the commander said that it would kick off with a press briefing with journalists on Nov. 15.

“On Nov. 16, we will have advocacy visits to motor parks for sensitisation; while on Nov. 17, we will be having a workshop with our stakeholders and on Nov. 18, we will attend a Friday Jamaat Service.

“On Nov. 19, members of the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSAWA) and other stakeholders will embark on an advocacy visit to hospitals to commiserate with victims of road traffic in the state. We will conclude the week on Sunday, with a church service,” he added.
