#ENDSARS: BON Asks NBC To Immediately Withdraw Sanction Plac

The Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) has asked the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately withdraw the sanction it placed on AIT, Arise TV, and Channels Television.

Challenging the sanction in a statement on Tuesday, the chairman of BON, Sa'a Ibrahim, said that NBC did not follow due process before sanctioning the television stations.

Ibrahim asked NBC to issue a formal query to each of the stations and give the stations time to respond before the application of sanctions.

“BON wishes to call on NBC to issue a formal query to each of the stations involved and give [them a] stipulated period to formally respond before taking the application of sanction laws.

“Therefore, we kindly request that the sanctions on AIT, Channels TV and Arise TV be withdrawn immediately pending formal responses by stations,” the statement read.

It will be recalled that NBC had yesterday fined the three television stations for using unverified social media videos during their coverage of the #ENDSARS protest.

However, BON which is the recognized association of public and private broadcasters in Nigeria has called on the regulatory body to follow due process before issuing the sanction.
