The Inspector-General of Police Mohammad Adamu has finally announced the immediate disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).
Making this announcement during a press briefing on Sunday, the IGP revealed that men serving in the Unit will be redeployed to other police commands and units.
He further revealed that arrangements for tackling the offences of Armed-Robbery and other violent crimes will be unveiled soon.
Also, the IGP hinted that the Force will partner with civil society organizations to deal with reports of crimes against Nigerians.
According to Adamu, a stakeholders' forum will be launched to enable Nigerians to have regular access to the police.
His announcement is coming in the heat of nationwide protest calling for the disbandment of the anti-robbery squad.
It will be recalled that former Senate President, Bukola Saraki who called for the disbandment of SARS, said that he was no longer going to sit back and fold his arm while the situation continues to worsen.
