#ENDSARS: Meluibe Foundation Lauds Nigerian Youth, Calls For Holistic Police Reform

The Meluibe Empowerment Foundation has lauded Nigerian youth on its united call and protest against incessant extra-judicial killings and brutality by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the country.

The youth and women empowerment organisation, in a statement, tasked the government to ensure a holistic reform of the Nigerian Police Force.

 “We highly commend the efforts of Nigerian youth in the protest against all forms of a human rights violation by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

"SARS was specifically created to fight armed robbery, sadly the personnel charged with fighting crime have been perpetrators of violence against the very people they were employed to protect.

“Indeed, this protest not only symbolize new dawn for Nigeria but also the birth of a new vision led by the youth. The glory and prosperity of any nation lie in its youth, hampering the lives of its youth only sabotages the efforts of its citizens in building a prosperous nation.

“We desire a Nigeria where all citizens can thrive without the fear of oppression. This is an issue that affects all Nigerians, across the generational divide and irrespective of social status.

“Kudos to all persons, associations, and organizations who have been provided technical, moral, physical, and financial support for protesters.

“However, we appeal to all youth to remain law-abiding and only engage in non-violent means as we continue to protest against police brutalities and all forms of injustice while leaving room for dialogue.

“We would also like to recognize and appreciate the efforts of the government in addressing the demands of our youths. We urge the government and the Nigerian Police Force to be transparent and thorough in implementing the Police reforms and the #5for5 demands it agreed to on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

“In times as this, all stakeholders must come together to work for a better Nigeria. We join our voices with Nigerians home and abroad to say Enough is Enough”.
