#EndSars: Naira Marley Cancels Protest, Gives Operatives Ult

Controversial singer, Naira Marley has announced the cancellation of a planned protest against the brutal activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

AllNews reports that top personalities and other citizens in the country have over time called for an end to the anti-robbery squad, as a result of the incessant killing of youths.

Over the weekend, celebrities, in a renewed online protest, took to their social media pages to call for an end to the squad with several hashtags such as #EndSars, #EndSarspermanentlyNow, etc.

Naira Marley who earlier expressed fears about going to prison if he partakes in the protest, in some tweets revealed that “they” would be embarking on a peaceful one on Tuesday, October 6.

However, the "Tesumole" crooner on Tuesday morning said the protest will no longer hold, but, as "Marlians" the SARS will be given a week ultimatum to review their activities and if there are no changes, a mass protest will hold.

"We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now. As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there are no changes we will start a mass protest," he tweeted.

The singer's announcement is coming after the Nigeria police force announced that the cries of the youths were heard "loudly and clearly"

On its official Twitter handle, the force wrote "@officialnairam1 The Inspector General of Police wishes to inform Nigerian youths that their voices and complaints on the issues of unprofessional conduct by some SARS operatives have been heared very loudly and clearly."

The police also announced that the force PRO-DCP, Frank Mba will have a live Instagram chat with Naira Marley to discuss issues of SARS.

"Today, Tuesday 6th October 2020, by 11 am, the Force PRO- DCP Frank Mba will be having a live Instagram chat with Naira Marley to answer questions and discuss the concerns of young Nigerians on the issues of SARS operations and other burning issues. Please stay tuned."

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare had earlier urged Naira Marley and youths not to engage in protest, stating that the ministry was working towards ending SARS brutality.

"I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth, I know this is an issue that must be tackled. The government is doing just that," Dare wrote on Twitter.
