'#ENDSARS Protests A Result Of Lack Of Trust In Govt' - Public Affairs Analyst

'#ENDSARS Protests A Result Of Lack Of Trust In Govt' - Publ

A Public Affairs Analyst, Temitope Omotayo has blamed the continued #ENDSARS# protests by youths across Nigeria on lack of trust in government.

AllNews reports that Barrister Omotayo who was speaking recently on a live Radio programme "Roundtable talk" on Ayoba FM, Ado-Ekiti said government's approach to the agitations of the protesting youths was not convincing enough, thereby making them to lose trust in government.

He pointed out that after the disbandment of SARS, it is too hasty for the Inspector General of Police to form another unit named "SWAT".

According to him, " The Force supposed to make consultations, like inviting the youths to dialogue with them before taking the decision".

Omotayo was of the opinion that there were many issues to be addressed before setting up another unit to replace "SARS" among which is total reform of the Police force, increasing police officers remuneration and fishing out bad eggs among them, as well as training the personnel on the need to always respect human rights.

The Ado-Ekiti-born young politician urged the government to show genuine concern about the protest by acceding to the yearnings of the demonstrators without further delay.

He stressed the need for government to engage the youths by providing employment for them. "If this among other things are not done, the youths can not be taken off the streets".

"They should continue to hold government accountable and fight for their rights.

"This will enable Nigerian leaders to place premium on the plights of the younger generation," Temitope Omotayo said.
