#EndSARS: Some Of Us Have Lost Brothers - Protesters In Aust

Nigerians living in Australia have joined their voices to the #EndSARS protest that has reverberated across the country.

The protesters who staged their protest at the Nigerian High Commission in Australia said that their agitation aligns with the mood in Nigeria.

In a video, one of the protesters said that they are also protesting because they had lost a relative or the other to the officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

One of them said, “Some of us here have lost brothers, we have lost cousins. Some of us are survivors. We are survivors of police brutality.

“You go about in Nigeria; you can’t even go about your daily duties. Why would we be governed by people who are charlatans in power?

“Why would we be governed by people who do not apply rural decency? Why would we allow injustice to thrive on our street?”

Although, the Police Inspector-General, Mohammed Adamu, had announced the disbandment of the controversial unit, protests continue to gain stea, across the country.

Protesters became more agitated when the IGP announced the creation of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit to replace the SARS team.

Nigerians say that the creation of the new unit does nothing to curb the brutality experienced at the hands of the SARS officers.
