The government of the United Kingdom has disclosed that consideration of individual sanctions targeted at officials of the Nigerian Government will take place on 23 November.
The disclosure was made in an email sent to an individual who had signed a petition requesting that the UK government placed sanctions on parties responsible for the killing of peaceful #EndSARS protesters, The SUN says.
In the email, it was stated that the debate was scheduled for November 23, 2020, and that the petitioner would receive "a video and transcript" of the debate via email.
The email stated, “Parliament is going to debate the petition you signed - 'implement sanctions against the Nigerian government and officials’. The debate is scheduled for 23 November 2020. Once the debate has happened, we’ll email you a video and transcript.”
Speaking on the issue of the debate, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has asked that the government of the UK imposed sanctions without any form of bias.
The outcome of the debate will be shaped by the provisions and stipulations of the UK Global Human Rights Sanctions Regulations 2020.
Functioning as a body that checks violations of human rights across the world, the events of October 20, 2020, will be highlighted and punitive measures will be served accordingly.
