English must be exceptional to lift Euro trophy - Southgate�

England Manager, Gareth Southgate, has warned his team that they must be at their very best to be regarded as title contenders, after seeing Germany and Spain win in convincing fashion in the Euro tournament thus far. 

Southgate revealed that, he has his eyes on other countries and insists that his team must be at their best to stand a chance of lifting the trophy on July 14.

"You've seen Germany play the way they did last night, Spain today [against Croatia]. There are a lot of good teams in this tournament. We have to be exceptional to progress through the group and the opportunity to go further," the England boss is quoted by the BBC at his press conference ahead of the game against Serbia.

"I am hugely excited - to lead your country into a major tournament is an amazing honour, a great privilege. It's just as exciting as it was ahead of Russia, if not more so", he said.

The onetime Middlesbrough Manager reierated that the Euro 2024 could be his last tournament in charge of the Three Lions, if he does not lead the team to European glory. 

The coach spoke earler this week that the tournament in Germany couod be his last and that question was put forward to hm in Saturday night's press conference ahead of the game on Sunday, against Serbia at the Arena AufSchalke.

"I have been in the job for eight years, I understand the landscape. Everyone who has been in the job has experienced the same thing.

"I just try to prepare the team in the best possible way and we're really looking forward to the beginning of the tournament", Southgate added.

Meanwhile, his contract is due to expire in December this year, but the Football Association are hopeful that they can convince him to remain as Manager for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
