Enugu: Bring Back School Sports — Female Footballer

Enugu: Bring Back School Sports — Female Footballer

A female footballer from Enugu State, Chidera Offor, has called on the incoming administration to revive the abandoned school sports programme.

Offor made the request while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

According to her, school sports have produced professionals both in the state and the county at large.

“it has been a long we witnessed school sports in the state in which I was a participant during the time of Gov. Suvilian Chime.

“I know many people that made it through to the level they are now through this school sports as it helps in discovering, development of young and vibrant talents.

“School sports has a mind of its own where you see many talents waiting to explore and I wish the incoming government will give hope again to those who have lost it in sports,” she urged.

The Greefoot FC Enugu player condemned the poor state of sports in the state, adding that she never imagined it to be.

“No good structure of sports facilities, poor facility management, no hope for the upcoming generations because there are no avenue for them to excel.

“I can recall how many times Enugu state has not participated in National Sports Festival, not to talk of more of school sports.

“These are things we expect the director of sports should look into; these alone give hope to the young ones that they can still make it through sports,” she said.

Offa called for the restructuring of the sports sector in the state, urging the incoming administration to be intentional about his choice of Sports Director.

‘Someone that knows what sports is all about and not the other way round and resuscitate sports in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

“Make sure that primary section gets their own annual school sports same with the secondary and tertiary institution; this will help to bring back sports alive in Enugu state,” Offor said.
