Enugu police parade killers of traditional ruler, 72 others

Eleven suspects allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of Igwe Patrick Ezugwu, the Traditional Ruler of Adani community in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area of Enugu state, on December 24, 2023, have been paraded by the Anambra state police command.

The suspects were also involved in the kidnapping of Hon. Vitalis Nwankwo and four others, who were later released after payment of ransom and the attempted murder of the Chairman of the Neighborhood Watch Group in the Adani community.

The state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uchegbu, on Tuesday, also paraded 72 suspects arrested for various crimes, ranging from kidnapping, car snatching, gunrunning, one-chance robbery and armed robbery between January till date.

The CP further announced that no fewer than 20 kidnapped victims were rescued while 46 firearms were recovered, 35 stolen exotic cars and six tricycles and 15 motorcycles were recovered from suspected criminals within the period under review.

The CP gave the names of the suspects involved in the murder of the Traditional Ruler as Henry Ikenna Okafor, aged 29, Charles Eze, aged 23, Amobi Okeke, aged 33, Chukwuma Agu, aged 38, Emmanuel Udealor (aka Alhaji), aged 44, Obeta Friday, aged 21, Ekwe Ikechukwu, aged 35, Ugwu Osmond Osita, aged 49, Nzekwe Chukwuebuka Fidelix, aged 25, King's Aniche, aged 35, and Ikowa Isaiah 29.

The CP said, "The 83 suspects we are parading today are the success story of the command between January this year till date. They are all involved in various crimes, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, snatching of cars and gunrunning.

"The first two suspects, who identified and led the operation to the arrest of the other suspects, confessed to having carried out several acts of kidnapping, armed robbery and murder within the Adani community and other parts of Uzo-uwani Local Government Area.

"While 20 kidnapped victims were rescued, 46 firearms were recovered and 35 stolen exotic cars were also recovered. Other items recovered from them within the period under review are; 6 tricycles and 15 motorcycles.

"As we shall have more harvests, we shall turn up the heat and make Enugu state more uncomfortable for them and their activities. As if they fail to repent, then we shall stop nothing to ruthlessly deal with them all.

"There is no doubt that the task of tackling the increasing security challenges is fast becoming very daunting. Nonetheless, I assure inhabitants of Enugu state that we shall remain focused and unflinching in our commitment to enthrone a crime-free and peaceful environment for all and sundry to thrive their legitimate enterprises.

"I, however urge the citizenry to remain law-abiding, security conscious and continue to support the police, through provision of credible and actionable information , while also reporting suspected criminals and their activities to the nearest police station."
