Gabriel Magalhaes was the hero for Arsenal as his 85th-minute winner handed the Gunners the maximum points against Fulham to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Fulham took the lead through Aleksandr Mitrovic in the 56th minute when he took advantage of Gabriel's error to fire past Aaron Ramsdale.

Captain Martin Odegaard brought Arsenal back into the game with a deflected effort to make it 1-1.

Gabriel atoned for his error with the winner five minutes from time when he tapped his effort into the net following a goalmouth scramble.

Aaron Ramsdale came to Arsenal's rescue in the stoppage time when he made a superb save to deny Nathaniel Chalobah.

The Gunners held on to earn the maximum points to continue their impressive start to the season.

Mikel Arteta praised his boys for grinding out a win in a difficult match and their mentality after the mistake by Gabriel.

"Big boost, winning like this is really nice.

"We made a mistake and they punished us but then how we reacted against adversity, the connection with the supporters, the way we went about it, the team believed.

"They wanted to win the match, they went for it and we managed to do it."

"It shows his character and how far he has come across.

"His mentality and the way he looks after himself I am really happy.

Arteta said attention will now be shifted to the next Premier League game against Aston Villa.

"Now it is onto the next one. We have another two games this week we have to prepare and recover well. Every game in this league is so demanding.

"Really physical and really quality teams with top coaches that make every game difficult."

"Start of a title challenge? No this is just the start of the season. We are in a long, long marathon."

Arsenal have won their first four games of the season for the third time after achieving same feat in 2003-04 and 2004-05
