EPL: Arteta Reckons Title Race More Than A Two-Horse Race

EPL: Arteta Reckons Title Race More Than A Two-Horse Race

Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta reckons that Arsenal and reigning champions Manchester City are not the only teams fighting for the Premier League title.

He insists that there are more than two teams gunning to clinch the title.

The Gunners are currently the league leaders with 54 points and have a game in hand.

Besides City who are behind them with 2 points, they are trailed by Manchester United and Tottenham who they also lead with five and 12 points respectively.

This wasn't the case several weeks ago as the Gunners were in full gear to claim their first league title since 2003/4.

It took a defeat to Everton, a draw against Brentford and another defeat to City to halt them in their tracks before they bounced back to winning ways with two stoppage-time goals to claim maximum points against Aston Villa and return as league leaders after dropping to second in the aftermath of City's defeat.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Leicester, the Arsenal boss said: “I think there is more [than two] teams involved and every day is going to be a race – a race to convince those players how to train better, to play better."

Arteta however noted that his players have to play better every game week to stand a good chance of winning the title race.

"We have to play really well to compete and try to win that game [at Leicester], which is going to be difficult.

"It is a challenge every week in this league,” he added.
