EPL: Callum Wilson Leads Newcastle Past Brighton In Top-Four

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson was a real menace to Brighton & Hove Albion as Newcastle secured a resounding 4-1 victory over Brighton at St James' Park on Thursday.

The win brought Newcastle within touching distance of Champions League qualification, further solidifying their position among the Premier League's elite.

Newcastle got off to a flying start, thanks to the dead-ball expertise of Kieran Trippier.

The full-back's precise crosses caused havoc in the Brighton defence, resulting in an own goal from Deniz Undav and a well-placed header by Dan Burn, putting the hosts 2-0 up before halftime.

Brighton's Undav managed to pull a goal back for his side early in the second half, injecting some hope into the Seagulls' camp.

However, as Brighton pressed for an equalizer, Wilson seized the opportunity to extend Newcastle's lead.

In the dying minutes of the game, Wilson capitalized on a lightning-fast counter-attack, finding the back of the net to make it 3-1 in favour of Newcastle.

Not content with just a goal, Wilson turned provider in the closing stages, setting up Bruno Guimaraes to seal the victory with a fourth goal.

The triumph propelled Newcastle to third place in the Premier League table, positioning them within striking distance of Champions League qualification.

With just two league games remaining this season, a win against Leicester at home on Monday and a clash against Chelsea away, Newcastle has the chance to secure their place among Europe's elite.

In a stroke of luck for Newcastle, they could secure a top-four finish without even playing if Liverpool fails to secure victory against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Newcastle faithful will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of that fixture, knowing that a favour from Aston Villa could cement their place in the highly coveted Champions League.

Despite the defeat, Brighton remained in sixth place in the Premier League standings, still in contention for Europa League qualification next season.

The Seagulls will be determined to bounce back and continue their push for European football in the remaining fixtures.
