EPL: Everton shocks Liverpool at Goodison Park

Everton defeated Merseyside rivals Liverpool 2-0 Wednesday night in the 244th Merseyside derby between both teams which has derailed Liverpool's title hopes.

Everton made it back-to-back wins and clean sheets at home when they overcame relegation rivals Nottingham Forest on Sunday while Liverpool bounced back from a turbulent week with a much needed 3-1 victory at Fulham on Sunday. The result saw them go higher on the log above Manchester City.

Everton was denied a penalty in the 7th minute of the game when VAR ruled that Dominic Calvert-Lewin was offside in the build-up and the penalty withdrawn, as was the booking that was shown to misfielder Curtis Jones.

In the 13th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a cross-field pass from left to right and Mohamed Salah volleyed towards the back post but the ensuing shot was blocked.

Jarrad Branthwaite slotted home for a deserved lead for Everton in the 27th minute as his shot squirmed past Allison in Liverpool goal.

Darwin Nunez found the Egyptian superstar Salah on the edge of the box towards the end of the first half and his first shot slammed into a defender as the Reds desperately sought an equaliser, but his curling effot went wide off target.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed in Everton's second goal from a corner in the 58th minute and the Reds never recovered from the blow.
