EPL Golden Glove Race: Nick Pope, Moraes Ederson In Duel

EPL Golden Glove Race: Nick Pope, Moraes Ederson In Duel

The race for the Premier League Golden Glove award will be decided on Sunday 26th July 2020 with the two contestants leveled at the same point.

Nick Pope and Ederson have each kept 15 clean sheets for Burnley and Manchester City respectively.

Pope took the lead last Saturday after a 2-0 win at Norwich City, but Ederson matched him in Tuesday's 4-0 victory over Watford.

Both players are aiming to claim the Premier League's top goalkeeping prize, which is presented by Cadbury, for the first time.

Ederson lost out on the award to Liverpool's Alisson on the final day of last season, but he has put himself in contention again with six clean sheets in his last nine Premier League matches.

Players Clean Sheets Opponents
Nick Pope 15 Brighton (H)
Moraes Ederson 15 Norwich (H)

Neither goalkeeper earned a shutout in the reverse fixtures.

Indeed, Ederson was beaten three times in a shock 3-2 defeat to the Canaries, while Pope conceded in a 1-1 draw.

Both players have home advantage in their final match, with Pope facing Brighton & Hove Albion while Ederson meets relegated Norwich City.

If they are still level after Sunday's matches, they will become just the second pair of goalkeepers to share the award after Petr Cech and Wojciech Szczesny did so in 2013/14.

It is still a surprise not to see Allison Becker with the top contestants with the Liverpool No. 13 impressive this season behind the post both at Anfield and away from home. The Brazilian international had just 13 clean sheets that is 2 behind these two contestants even with the final game ending in a clean sheet, he would not be able to meet their present tally.

AllNews understands that this season makes the second season Ederson will be in contention to win the award.

He won the trophy during the 2018/2019 season which makes him the defending holder of the award. Alisson earned the award outright after Ederson, who was also on 20 clean sheets going into the last match, conceded in Manchester City’s 4-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
