EPL: Ighalo Will Remain With Man Utd Until Jan 2021 - Agent

Atta Aneke, Odion Ighalo's agent, has confirmed the Nigerian striker is set to extend his stay at Manchester United of the English Premier League (EPL) till the winter of next year.

AllNews reports that the Nigerian forward has been an instant success since his January move to Old Trafford but saw his future at the club in doubt with his original loan deal at the club expiring on Sunday.

Ighalo's initial loan deal would have covered the end of United's season, but with the campaign placed on hold since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are still nine EPL games remaining with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side also still in the FA Cup and Europa League.

Shanghai Shenhua were keen to have the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) top scorer back for the beginning of the new Chinese Super League season, but sources close to the player told M.E.N. Sport last week that an extended loan deal until January 30, 2020, was now "looking most likely".

Ighalo made a personal request to his parent club to extend his time at United, with the boyhood fan keen to finish what he started after netting four goals in eight appearances since surprisingly joining on deadline day.

Significant progress was made over a new deal last week and now Aneke has confirmed the 30-year-old is set to extend his loan deal at United.

"We are nearing an agreement with Manchester United on an extended loan," Aneke told Nettavisen.

"The agreement will mean that Ighalo will remain with them until January 2021."

The border restrictions were thought to be one of the things that prevented Ighalo from returning to China in time for the new season.

Ighalo had been offered a two-year contract extension with Shanghai worth £400,000 a week. But he was not moved by the money.

His current Shenhua contract expires in December 2022, but Shenhua want to keep him until at least December 2024.
