EPL: Man City Keep Pace With Arsenal With 2-0 Win Over Newca

Phil Foden

On Saturday, Manchester City defeated Newcastle 2-0 in the Premier League title race, keeping pace with Arsenal at the top.

Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva scored the goals for City, who relied on two moments of inspiration to secure the vital three points despite a disjointed performance.

Newcastle missed several chances to score, with Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson, and Joelinton guilty of not even forcing Ederson into a save.

Foden struggled for form and fitness after the World Cup, but he has looked more like his old self over the past week, scoring his fourth goal in three games.

Newcastle's hopes of a top-four finish are fading, with a first full season under Saudi ownership that promised so much.

Their recent run of one win in eight league games since December 26 has seen them fall four points behind Tottenham in the race for a place in next season's Champions League.

Despite a triple change by Eddie Howe early in the second half, Newcastle failed to find the back of the net, and City added to their lead with a goal from Silva.

The second goal took the wind out of Newcastle's sails, and City comfortably saw out the final quarter, with Pope saving low to his right from Foden.
