EPL: Manchester United slip, held by Bournemouth at Vitality

Manchester United salvaged a face-saving 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday evening at the Vitality Stadium as their aspirations for top four places continue to suffer slips.

United lost 4-3 to Chelsea penultimate weekend and also played a 1-1 draw with Liverpool but the wheels were off for them when Nigerian-born former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke put the Cherries ahead in the first half for his 17th league goal of the season.

The strike means that the forward is now his club's top scorer in Premier League history but the lead did not last long as Bruno Fernandez capitalised on defensive lapses to fire the ball to the roof of the net inside the penalty box in the 31st minute.

The home side missed a few good chances to put the game to bed but Justin Kluivert restored their lead five minutes later with a crisp finish as United's defenders were in six and sevens, unable to curtail the nippy movement of the Bournemouth attackers.

United captain Fernandez tucked away a 65th-minute penalty to draw level as Adam Smith handled Kobbie Mainoo's deflected shot.

The game ended 2-2 draw with United's hopes of catching up with the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in the top five places on the log looking increasingly difficult.
