EPL: Matip Heads Liverpool Past West Ham Into Sixth On Stand

Liverpool

Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over West Ham United in a Premier League match on Wednesday, thanks to a bullet header from Joel Matip.

The win moves Liverpool up to sixth place in the table on 53 points, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur thanks to their far superior goal difference.

Liverpool is one point behind Aston Villa with a game in hand as they seek to save a disappointing season.

West Ham took the lead in the 12th minute with a stunning goal from Lucas Paqueta, but Dutch striker Cody Gakpo equalized just six minutes later with a bouncing shot that beat Lukasz Fabianski.

Despite dominating possession, Liverpool had to fight hard for their victory, with the Hammers remaining dangerous on the break.

Jarrod Bowen had a brilliant solo goal ruled out by VAR for being offside early in the second half.

Matip eventually secured Liverpool's third win in a row with a powerful header from Andy Robertson's corner in the 67th minute.

The end-to-end game at the London Stadium saw Liverpool emerge victorious, putting them back in the European places and setting the stage for an exciting end to the Premier League season.
