EPL: Tottenham Defeat West Ham To Move Into Fourth On Standi

Son and Kane

Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham United at home On Sunday, propelling them into the top four of the Premier League standings and relegating their London rivals to the bottom three.

Tottenham coming off the back of a 1-0 loss to AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League in mid-week and the absence of head coach Antonio Conte, started slowly.

Despite a lacklustre first half, Spurs picked up the pace after the break, with right-back Emerson Royal and substitute Son Heung-min both scoring goals.

This triumph was significant for Tottenham, who had suffered losses to Leicester City and AC Milan in the Champions League, and it allowed them to overtake Newcastle United in the table.

Emerson Royal marked his 50th Premier League appearance by scoring the opening goal in the 56th minute, assisted by Ben Davies. Son, who has had a difficult season and was not included in the starting lineup by the interim manager Cristian Stellini, combined with Harry Kane to double the lead.

Although West Ham began the derby with a strong start and Jarrod Bowen had an early chance, they offered little resistance and have only won one of their previous 11 league games, putting pressure on manager David Moyes.

Tottenham now have 42 points from 24 games, one point ahead of Newcastle, who have a game in hand. West Ham, on the other hand, have 20 points from 23 matches, just below the safety zone.
