EPL: Wolves Seal Sheffield's Relegation Fate With Jose's Lone Goal

EPL: Wolves Seal Sheffield's Relegation Fate With Jose's Lon

Wolverhampton Wanderers dealt the final blow to Sheffield United as a 1-0 loss sealed the Blades relegation to the second division on Saturday.

As Norwich confirmed their promotion into the top flight, Blades who managed to stay in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons were relegated to the EFL Championship.

Wolves have also taken a step back this season after losing Raul Jimenez for most of the campaign due to a fractured skull.

January signing Willian Jose has struggled to replace Mexico forward but finally got his first Wolves goal by sweeping home Adama Traore's cross on the hour mark.

"If you pick a game to typify this season, it was that. We were on top, missed chances and this league won't give you a second chance," said caretaker United boss Paul Heckingbottom.

"There has to be a mentality to get straight back. Everyone wants to play in this league. You need to get promoted and that's everyone's driving force."

Victory takes Nuno Espirito Santo's men beyond the 40-point mark and up to 12th as they are now safe from the drop.

By contrast, Sheffield United now face a rebuild in the Championship with the club in crisis on and off the field.
