Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has opened up on his dinner date with legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

This was ahead of the second leg of United's play-off with Barcelona to get into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Both sides played 2-2 in the first leg at the Nou Camp last week and are set to resume hostilities on Thursday.

Talking to the media on Wednesday afternoon about his dinner date with Fergie, the gaffer said that they rubbed minds on how United can return to its glory days.

"It is massive (to have his support)," he said. "I enjoy speaking with people with massive knowledge and experience.

"He wants to share it, he wants to help and support.

"Manchester United is his club and he feels so committed.

"He wants us to be doing well. It was a great night."

Ferguson was the last United coach who claimed victory over Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Red Devils won the semi-final second-leg 1-0 having played a goalless draw in the Nou Camp.

United eventually were crowned the 2008 Champions League winners having won Chelsea on penalties in the final.
