Erik ten Tag berates critics, warns players on defensive err

Erik ten Hag has lambasted critics who quesstioned his team's efforts after in Wednesday night's nervy 4-2 win against Sheffield United at the Old Trafford.

The Dutch tactician insists that his Manchester United side were always in control of Wednesday's Premier League match against Sheffield United despite starting poorly and had to come from a goal down to ultimately win thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandez [brace], Harry Maguire and Rasmus Hojlund.

Erik ten Hag spoke to the media in his press conference about the performance of the team against the Blades and spoke about the impact of the new United heriachy who were in the stands to see the game.

"We had two giveaways, two times we were behind so we talk about two negatives - one is focus and one is discipline.

"But for the rest I think we were totally in control. The team showed resilience. It is not easy when you are losing the game but we turned it around against a compact team. We outplayed them. We were calm.

United had 72 per cent possession and 25 attempts at goal as they ended a four-match winless run but Ten Hag's side have now scored at least two and conceded at least two in each of their last five in all competitions.

Jayden Bogle and Brereton Diaz were the scorers for relegation-bound Sheffield who pounced on defensive lapses to punish the Red Devils before they capitulated.

"We have to stop this process[defensive errors]," Ten Hag added.

"You can't make such mistakes at the top level if you want to achieve your targets, if you want to win trophies.

"You can't allow these mistakes and focus on discipline because life is much easier when you don't make such mistakes." he stressed.

The Red Devils' next league game is a trip to Burnley.
