'Eternals': Director Chloé Zhao Opens Up On The MCU's First Sex Scene

Fans can't wait for the next film in the MCU to arrive in cinemas around the globe next month and award-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao has revealed details about the sex scene in it.

Featuring an ensemble cast, Eternals will introduce audiences worldwide to the immortals created by the Celestials who must battle their evil counterparts, the Deviants, as humanity's last line of defense.

Zhao spoke with IndieWire about the process behind the sex scene in the movie (a first for Marvel Studios), admitting that she and the studio spent a lot of time talking about how to do the scene the right way.

The director revealed she was adamant about showing that kind of love onscreen both "emotionally" and "intellectually", along with the physical aspect of it.

She added that she sees it as "a really beautiful thing" that fans would be able to see in a Marvel film.

“For us to be able to show two people who love each other, not just emotionally and intellectually but also physically, and to have a sex scene that will be seen by a lot of people that shows their love and compassion and gentleness — I think it’s a really beautiful thing", Zhao stated.

Eternals had its premiere on October 18, 2021, in Los Angeles. It will arrive in theaters in the US on November 5, 2021, and other cinemas around the world on November 12, 2021.

The movie stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree, Salma Hayek, amongst others.
