The Ethiopian government has accused the World Health Organization (WHO) director in Ethiopia of misconduct after he criticised the country over war and humanitarian crisis.
The Director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is being accused of interfering in Ethiopia's internal affairs, according to a press release by the Ethiopian ministry of foreign affairs.
The statement reads; “Through Tedros' acts, he has spread harmful misinformation and compromised WHO's reputation, independence, and credibility."
Tedros had criticized the situation in Ethiopia on many occasions as he said in a press briefing; “Nowhere in the world are we witnessing hell like in Ethiopia.”
He made references to a memo WHO recently claimed that health authorities in the country had run out of basic medicines for diseases including diabetes and were now using expired stocks.
Tedros also accused Ethiopia of blocking international access to the town of Tigray, saying that WHO had not been allowed to send any supplies to the region since July.
