The Ethiopian parliament has on Tuesday, voted for an end to a six-month state of emergency declared in November.
The state of emergency was declared in November of last year when rebellious Tigrayan forces had threatened to march on the capital.
The Parliament's decision came after the cabinet proposed cutting short the state of emergency to improve security conditions in the country.
About 312 lawmakers attended Tuesday's session, 63 of whom opposed lifting the state of emergency, while 21 abstained from the vote.
According to Africanews, it was not immediately clear whether the state of emergency would be lifted on Tuesday following parliament's vote.
Ethiopia’s war erupted in November 2020 and is believed to have caused the deaths of thousands of people and the displacement of millions.
Since the war began and till now, most of the rebellious forces have retreated to their region and there are signs of peace in the country.
