EU Foreign Ministers Convene, Affirm Support For Ukraine’s

In a historic move, the foreign ministers of all 27 European Union member states are gathering in war-torn Ukraine, marking the first-ever meeting held outside the EU's borders.

This unannounced meeting underscores the EU's strong support for Kyiv as Ukraine continues to grapple with Russia's full-scale invasion, now in its 20th month.

EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, announced the meeting, stating, "I am convening today the EU Foreign Ministers in Kyiv, for the first-ever meeting of all 27 Member States outside the EU." He further emphasized, "Ukraine’s future lies within the EU."

This meeting demonstrates the EU's unwavering commitment to Ukraine and its aspirations to become an EU member in the future.

While high-ranking EU officials have visited Kyiv frequently since the conflict began, this marks the first official EU summit held in the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba welcomed the ministers, highlighting that this meeting is taking place "within future borders" of the EU, signifying Ukraine's determination to align its future with the European Union.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna also emphasized that this meeting sends a strong message to Moscow, underlining the EU's determination to provide long-term support to Ukraine.

She conveyed, "It is a demonstration of our resolute and lasting support for Ukraine until it can win. It is also a message to Russia that it should not count on our weariness. We will be there for a long time to come."

The EU, along with key allies like the United Kingdom and the United States, has provided substantial military and financial assistance to Ukraine, enabling it to resist the Russian offensive. This collaboration underscores the unity among EU member states in standing with Ukraine during its time of need.
