EU Offers China Aid Amid COVID-19 Surge

The European Union said Tuesday it has offered China help to deal with its COVID-19 crisis, including the donation of vaccines.

The European Commission said that over the past several days that the bloc had already reached out to offer help.

The EU said: “The variants circulating in China are already circulating in the EU, and as such are not challenging for the immune response of EU citizens.”

In December, China’s National Health Commission said that it stopped publishing daily figures on the number of COVID-19 cases where no symptoms are detected.

It said; “It was impossible to accurately grasp the actual number of asymptomatic infected persons, which have generally accounted for the vast majority of new infections. The only numbers they are reporting are confirmed cases detected in public testing facilities.”

Without asymptomatic cases being counted, China reported over 2,249 infections, bringing the nation’s total to over 369,918.

It has recorded over five thousand deaths.
