Euro 2024: Belgium looking to bounce back after shocking defeat in first game

Euro 2024: Belgium looking to bounce back after shocking def

Belgium suffered what could be regarded as the biggest upset in the history of the European Championship on Monday when they were defeated 1-0 by Slovakia in their opening Group E match.

The third-best ranked national team, that at some point in the recent past, were the world's best-ranked team for five consecutive years would be hard-pressed to win Saturday night's game against Romania.

Belgium's golden generation could not win any major tournament while they topped the FIFA rankings and that is what this new wave of talents is hoping to correct.

A couple of the players that finished 3rd at the 2018 World Cup are still in the current team like Jan Vertoghen who is the captain - Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco controversially dropped Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois despite making a return to full fitness after a long spell on the treatment table.

Arsenal and Manchester City forwards, Leandro Trossard and Jeremy Doku, could be the jokers that win tonight's game for the Red Devils.

Romania have no major injury setbacks heading into his clash after an emphatic 3-0 win over Ukraine in their first game of the group.

The last time these two sides met in a competitive fixture came in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in 1993, with Romania victorious.

Allnews.ng's prediction: Belgium 3-1 Romania
